Brutiful.World

Located in Garbicz, western Poland, Brutiful.World transforms an unfinished family house and its surrounding terrain into a living cultural site — part Residency, part Retreat, part Camp. The project grows slowly, intuitively and collaboratively, guided by the belief that beauty emerges from rawness, context and the acceptance of what already exists.

Open Call — Residency

Design & Build Workshop

A site-responsive residency for artists, architects, writers and spatial practitioners interested in process, place and collective experimentation.

At the core of Brutiful.world is the annual Residency, a hands-on design and build workshop. Each year, architects, designers and artists gather to collaboratively conceive and construct new spatial interventions on site.

Participants do not simply discuss ideas — they test them physically. Structures are built, adjusted, dismantled, rethought and refined in real time. The process values experimentation, collective problem-solving and the intelligence of making together.

Through this residency format, Brutiful.world evolves incrementally. Each edition leaves behind a built contribution — a growing archipelago of spatial “islands,” each shaped by the spirit of a historical or contemporary figure whose thinking resonates with its atmosphere and purpose.

The Residency merges rural Polish craft traditions with the experimental attitude of contemporary European design culture.

Duration: 1 week
Location: Garbicz, Poland
Date: 17th – 23rd August 2026

What is Brutiful?

Beauty emerges from rawness and the acceptance of what already exists.

Brutiful began in 2022 as a wine project — a quest to understand how to make delicious, raw, untreated wines that taste like nothing but grape: unfiltered, alive, shaped by soil, climate and time.

Fermentation became a teacher. Process over control. Patience over polish. Context over manipulation.

From this ethos, Brutiful.World expanded beyond wine into space. Today, Brutiful.World is an emerging landscape of architecture, art and collective creation — a one-hectare archipelago of upcoming “islands,” each shaped by a different atmosphere, reference and spatial intention.

Around the Mothership — a former unfinished family house undergoing transformation into a communal cultural space — a constellation of islands unfolds. Each is dedicated to a historical or contemporary figure whose thinking resonates with its spatial qualities.

The Gandhi Mothership serves as the ethical and communal heart — an open space for cooking, conversation and collectiveness.

Vitruvius centers on fire — the architectural origin. It anchors the site as a place of gathering and shared presence.

The Anni Albers Bungalow hosts outdoor cooking and workshop activities. Inspired by Anni Albers, it celebrates material intelligence, craft and the quiet radicalism of making with one’s hands.

The Simone Weil floating island, referencing Simone Weil, explores suspension — between gravity and grace, land and water, solitude and encounter. It invites reflection and altered states of perception.

Brutiful.world is not a finished institution. It is an ongoing transformation — of a house, of land, of shared time. The unfinished structure becomes a framework for collective living, working and thinking together. Each intervention leaves a trace.

Come with openness. Stay for a moment or a while.
Leave a little lighter than you arrived.
